Langsa- Universitas Samudra (UNSAM) held a farewell ceremony for the 3rd Batch of Student Apprentice and Certified Independent Studies (Magang dan Studi Independen Bersertifikat: MSIB) as well as welcoming the 4th Batch of 2023, taking place in a Faculty of Engineering Hall in UNSAM, Tuesday (7/3/2023). This ceremony was attended by deputy chancellors, deans, coordinators of the study programs, heads of, and students participating in the 3rd batch and 4th batches of MSIB.

 A Person in Charge (PIC) for MSIB, Firdasari, S.T., M.T., in her report said that this was an extraordinary achievement; in this 4th batch, the number of students who passed the MSIB program was 50 students, consisting of 42 students participating in the Certified Internship program while the rest participated in the Certified Independent Studies program.

 Compared to previous years, it is a remarkable achievement. At the start of the program, only 2 students passed, then in the 2nd and 3rd batches 30 and 44 students passed respectively, and in this 4th batch of 2023, there are 50 students granted for this program. So the numbers keep increasing.“ Firdasari added, “ Fifteen companies became partners for this batch including Dinas Pekerjaan Umum dan Pengelolaan Ruang and BTPN Syariah and PT Suri Tani Pemuka”.

The number of students who graduated from the Certified Internship Program consisted of 18 students from the Civil Engineering program (43%), 9 students from the Developmental Economics program (21%), 7 students from the Aquaculture Program (17%), 4 students from Management Economics Program (10%), 1 student from Mechanical Engineering program (2%), 1 student from Informatics Engineering Program (2%), 1 student of Chemical Engineering program (2%), and 1 student from Accounting Economics program (2%).

 Meanwhile, those who graduated from the Certified Independent Study Program were 4 students from the Mechanical Engineering program, 2 students from Civil Engineering Program, 1 student from the Chemistry Education program, and 1 student from the Management Economics program.

 The companies in which students will do their internship program encompass the Directorate of Public Work and Housings, the Ministry of PUPR, PT. Erajaya Swasembada, PT. Suri Tani Pemuka; PT Bank BTPN Syariah Tbk, PT. Dankos Farma, Tbk. Pupuk Kalimantan Timur, Aqil Study Room Association, PT. Cybers Global Indonesia, and Kopertis WUBI.

 Furthermore, the partners for Independent Study Programs are PT Stechoq Robotika Indonesia, PT Indonesian Mechanic Fortune, PT Technology Education Maleo, PT Mitra Semeru Indonesia, PT Mandutama Multisarana Teknik, and PT Neosia Pratama Indonusa.

 Firdasari also said that this program took place from February to July 2023. At this time, the selected students had already departed to Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Banyuwangi, and Batam.

 Hopefully, at the end of the program, they will get new skills and of course when they finish college they can immediately get jobs according to their expertise in their field of knowledge“, said Firdasari.

The Chancellor of Universitas Samudra, Prof.Dr. Ir. Hamdani, M.T., IPM, represented by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ir. Cut Mulyani, M.P. officially opened this activity in her remarks by saying, “The MSIB Program consists of two Programs, Certified Internship, and Certified Independent Study. The MSIB program is one of the Nine (9) Independent Learning Campus (MBKM) programs of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek).”

 The implementation of MSIB also supports the achievement of Key Performance Indicators, particularly for point 1: Graduates Get Decent Employment and point 2: Students Get Learning Experiences Outside Institution.

 Cut Mulyani said, “Let’s continue to strive to improve the quality of our graduates. To the Deans and deputy Deans at the faculties, It is urged to inform students through the head of the study program to register for this MSIB program and Kampus Merdeka program.” At the end of the event, the Vice Chancellor congratulated the 3rd and 4th Batch MSIB students, “Welcome back to the students who have finished their apprenticeship and congratulations to the students who will depart; we hope this activity will be useful to you, for universities, and especially for our society”.

 Among the alumni participating in the 3rd Batch of MSIB, Rahman, also shared his experiences, impressions, and messages while participating in Internship activities at PT. Lentera Bumi Nusantara, Tasikmalaya by presenting its activities in Mechanical Systems, with the title Electric Vehicle Prototype Design for Community Needs in Rural Areas.

 Rahman said that he was chosen to join the PLN company after graduating from college. “Of all the apprentices, I was the only one invited to join the company where I did my internship after graduating from college. We were also joined by five friends from universities who took part in the internship and succeeded in assembling an energy-efficient electric water pump for village communities, and this is the implementation of the company’s program for the people there.” close Rahman who also serves as the Student Body in the Faculty of Engineering in UNSAM.
